A proper skincare routine is necessary to ensure you age well and are not left with uncared for, wrinkly skin. Many women take care of their skin with an effort to retain its youthfulness, charm and maintain a healthy look. However, its important to be aware of just how much impact your daily beauty routine has to the way your skin will age. As well as the various external factors at play such as UV rays, lifestyles, pollution and stress, there are also common skincare mistakes that may be impacting your skin in a less positive way. Discover below some of the most common skincare mistakes you may be making and how to reverse them!
1. Inconsistent skin care habits
Failing to maintain daily skincare practices is like being inconsistant with your medication…it simply works less effectively; if it works at all! Inconsistant habits can include constantly jumping from one to another, sleeping with make up still on, as well as failing to cleanse the skin daily. All in all each of these habits mean that your skin will really not feel the true benefits of whatever you are using on it, and is likely to age more quickly as a result. Ensure you follow a consistent routine; not matter how simple, to care for your skin to prevent premature aging.
Over-exfoliating the skin causes irritation and inflammation of the skin so opt for once a week maximum. Light exfoliation once a week means dead skin cells are removed and dry skin is helped out, without aggravating the skin too much.
3. Using skin care products that full of chemicals
With such an excess of information out there on the ingredients in skincare products its hard to know what to go for. Many of the makeup and skincare brands in our local drugstore are often full of chemicals, so we always look at the ingredients and try and opt for the ones that tend to use the fewest chemicals/or ingrediants we’ve never heard of! When in doubt go for natural, vegan brands and use the fewest preservatives possible. Chemicals act as free radicals in our bodies, which unfortunately speed up the aging process.
4. Forgetting the sunscreen
It’s hard to controls our genes but it is very easy to control environmental exposures. Sunscreen prevents harmful sunrays from destroying our skin. The UV rays are responsible for dark spots, wrinkles, damaged collagen and dilated vessels so take action each and every day by opting for skincare that contains an SPF.
5. Wearing make up all the time
A healthy skin has a slower aging rate. Avoid wearing make up for many hours or too often. Too much make up damages the skin by denying it a platform to rebalance and to breathe. This can make you look older than you really are, so allow your skin a break to breath.
6. Neglecting the eyes
Most women take care of their skin religiously, but they often forget that the brightness of the eyes contributes to a youthful look. To avoid wrinkles use eye masks rich in beta-carotene compounds and always wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from harmful UV rays.
